The WIA Basics
ACADEMICS
The purpose of the Work Force Investment Act (WIA) program is to provide employment readiness training for participants. All services are provided on an open entry/open exit basis. Educational classes offered on-site include Adult Basic Education and General Education Preparedness (GED). Vocational Training may be arranged off-site and includes a Business Education Workshop component. Support Services offered are Career Search/Job Development, Resume Writing, and Interview Skills.
In order to enroll in Vocational Training classes you must have a High School Diploma or a GED Certificate.
WORK EXPERIENCE
The purpose of the Work Experience Program is to provide participants on-the-job training in an area of career development. The Job Developer or Program Manager will place the participant in work experience positions that offer the most appropriate training and growth opportunities for participants. Participants are required to comply with all employment regulations and policies of the employer. Participant must have a high school diploma or be making significant progress on G.E.D. testing to be eligible for these positions.
